CanvAffinity – Canva Studio within Affinity

canva within affinity

CanvAffinity

Ever since Canva took Affinity under its wings and I got a little taste of Affinity’s workflow, anytime I open Canva, I want to have some of what Affinity has. And when I get to Affinity, I want a lot of what Canva offers.

I tried Copy-Paste between the two, but that did not work either, at least at the time of writing this wish-list.

The Dream Workflow

Two of these feature-rich applications working as one would truly be a dream workflow.

For an Instagram Reel, I would drag a few Elements from Canva. I would change the Vector Graphics of those Elements using Affinity Vector Studio. I would bring in a photo of a product and Retouch it, perhaps add some of my Brushes using Affinity’s Pixel Studio, and finish the Reel with creative animated effects thanks to Canva. All in one application, without Importing and Exporting every single object.

The Nightmare behind Dream

Working on the combination of these two application would be of course a dream workflow but as a former developer myself, I can understand that combining the two would be a nightmarish task. The purpose and nature of these two applications are vastly different, even though, on the surface, they are meant to take on similar challenges.

So I have probably been overthinking this, but here is the solution I would go with.

A Possible Solution

I would keep Canva as Canva: the web-based interface, the desktop application, and the mobile app, they stay untouched. I personally use the mobile app the most. For some odd reason, I find I have better control there than in the desktop app. That part is not related to the solution or problem though.

I would add features from Canva into Affinity. A Canva Studio, you could call it.

Yes, Affinity works offline while Canva cannot perform without the Internet, so have Canva’s features active when the Internet is available. Or download the features that can work offline.

And what features do I desire to have?

* The Elements Library, of course.
* Fonts and the collection of their Text Effects
* Animation
* Video Editor

I would really like to have a very basic video editor in Affinity too, if possible. But I would be happy with what Canva can do without getting deep into its own video editor.

Basically, many of the core Canva features in Affinity. Some of these features can work offline and, so yes, work offline. And for those that play well in the presence of the Internet, they can play when the system is connected to the web.

I am sure I am not the only one thinking of this. I cannot be alone in this!
